Folk festival in Viljandi

Minulý prodloužený víkend jsem prožila ve Viljandech na folkovém festivalu "Viljandi Pärimusmuusika festival". Je to jeden z největších hudebních festivalů v Estonsku, probíhal od čtvrtka do neděle, kdy hrály, jak estonské, tak zahraniční kapely. Festival je organizovaný v úžasném prostředí trosek bývalého hradu a přilehlém parku, jedna scéna byla také na nádvoří muzea a v kostele. Potkala jsem se tam s kamarády, kteří bydlí ve Viljandech, ale přijeli také někteří dobrovolníci z Tallinnu a Tartu. Některé jsem znala, ale potkala jsem i několik nových :-)

Last long weekend I spent in the Viljandi Folk Festival "Viljandi Pärimusmuusika festival." It is one of the biggest music festivals in Estonia, took place from Thursday to Sunday, when played as Estonian and foreign bands. The festival is organized in an amazing surroundings of the former castle ruins and the nearby park, One stage was also in the courtyard of the museum and church. I met there with friends who live in Viljandi, but also some volunteers arrived from Tallinn and Tartu. Some I knew, but I met a few new :-)

Na festival si můžete koupit 4-denní lístek, na jednotlivé dny nebo jenom na samotné koncerty. Také je možnost koupit si lístek jen do areálu. Neuvidíte žadný koncert, ale něco z nich uslyšíte a je přístupná jedna scéna, kde se můžete učit některé folklorní tance. Taky byl v areálu workshop, kde jste si mohli vyzkoušet některé řemeslné práce. S kamarády jsme si vyzkoušeli vyrobit pásek ze zbytků látek.

At the festival you can buy a 4-day ticket, for each day or just to the concerts. Also you can buy a ticket just to the areal. You will not see any concerts, but some of them you will hear and is open to one stage where you can learn some folk dances. There was also workshop in the areal  where you could try some handicraft. With friends we tried to make belt of residue of clothes.

Největším zážitkem z festivalu pro mě byla estonsko-ukrajinská kapela Svjata Vatra, chorvatská kapela Veja, estonská kapela Bombillaz, což je mix reggae a estonské tradiční hudby. Potom Epifolium, to je akustický elektrický folk vycházející z tradičních estonských písní. V neděli jsme se dostali na koncert Číňana Wang Li, byl to úžasný zážitek. Hraje éterické improvizační skladby na tradiční čínský nástroj "brnkačka" a "hulusi (tykev flétnu)". Vlastně všechny kapely, které jsem slyšela byly skvělé, pořádně jsme si to s kamarády užila. V neděli jsem odjížděla unavená, ale plná hudebních zážitků. Tento festival mi nahradil český festival Colours of Ostrava, který každoročně navštěvuji.

Biggest experience of the festival for me was the Estonian-Ukrainian band Svjata Vatra, Croatian band Veja, the Estonian band Bombillaz, which is a mix of reggae and Estonian traditional music. Then Epifolium, it is an acoustic electric folk based on traditional Estonian songs. On Sunday we got to the concert Chinese Wang Li, it was an amazing experience. Plays an essential improvisational music on traditional Chinese instrument "the Jew's harp" and "hulusi (the calabash flute)." Actually, all the bands that I heard were great, really we enjoyed it with my friends. On Sunday I left tired, but full of musical experiences. This festival replaced me the Czech festival Colours of Ostrava, who every year attend.
