...................................................................................................................................

The weekend was held in Estonia Mardipäev, which falls on 10.11. . Mart is a boy's name, as well as in my country Martin. But in my country falls Martin on 11.11. In Estonia, there comes from pagan times and in my country it is associated with the holy Martin of Tours.
Men, boys, now they're rather children (girls and boys) they get dressed in male, dark, old clothes, puts beards, masks and other things, so you can not see their faces and go from house to house and they do much noise. The leader of the group was mardiisa (which is mardifather) and the only member who was dressed as a woman was mardiema (which mardimother). In every house they dance and sing and they get as a reward some candy. This reminds me a bit of Saint Nicholas, which in Estonia they don´t have. In earlier times, they believed that it brings good crops, but women also to show what they be able (show their craft). Here are different a traditional food, it is different from the region, for example pig's head with turnips and potatoes, chicken, baked cabbage and more.
In my country rather we have processions of St. Martin. This procession is also connected with lampions parade and it is component celebration of St. Martin, where we can tasted St Martin's wine  first time. It is first wine this year. It is the day when we meet with good friends and family, and as a traditional food is Martin's goose, St. Martin is the patron saint of geese, the legend says that Martin did not want to accept biskupskký office in Tours and hid in a flock of geese, but they revealed him their sound.
But something both countries have common. In earlier times, the finished work in the fields (the end of the crop season) and weather lore. People expect the first snow this time. In my country we say that martin arrives on a white horse. If this day is snow expected good crop, if it is cold and rainy it will be mild winter with snow and cold and rainy summer. And when is beautiful weather means that will be beautiful  summer and decent crop of hay.
